Japanese craft books

One of the joys of the blogging world is viewing the collection of Japanese craft books of others. The simplicity yet detailed projects offset the confusion in interpreting patterns using Japanese and the metric system.

After futile bi-monthly visits to the local Kinokuniya bookstore, located in Japantown, I finally found some to bring home. A good test is that I'm still excited a week later --- just no time to actually start a project!

Handmade Bag (ISBN# 4579107926) -- This has six handbag patterns, from a simple flat magazine tote to a zippered briefcase, to serve as templates for embroidery, ribbon work, and etc. Overall the needlework design are too elaborate for my tastes, but they can easily be simplified to serve as decorative accents.
Small Essentials Handmade with Cut Cloth (ISBN# 4834722996) -- This is my favorite that I'm almost overwhelmed with the possibilities! It has patterns/directions for handbags, totes, zippered pouches (in adorable half-moons, triangles, and circles), journal covers, potholders, drawstring pouches and etc. Basically it has a good assortment of personal accessories, little gifts, and home decor.
I really like these fresh looks at potholders. Sorry for the lack of photos...I'm still figuring out our scanner.

The bag book looks great, but I have to say that round potholder looks way cool!
